Welcome to Cheap Drum Kits.org where we help guide you with your desire or passion to play the drums. Look around and visit the site that offers selection and low pricing on the backbone to any band or group.

Buying  cheap drum kits is smart in the beginning as you, or your child, are discovering the talent and motivation to pursue this essential band instrument. I would highly recommend some form of drum lessons to start. There are many good videos in this regard to help understand basic rudiments, patterns, stick control etc. Despite my many years experience in rudimental drumming, I found drumming with a kit to be a new experience. The lessons were helpful in the transition.

You should consider a 5-pc. Drum kit to start. With a 5-pc. Kit you have the bass drum, a snare, a set of double toms and a floor tom. Cymbals would include a high-hat, a crash (optional), and a ride/crash cymbal with stands. The bass drum requires a foot pedal. The throne or seat is the last piece of the ensemble.

You can add on accessories as you go such as added cymbals, cowbell, double bass etc. It is recommended to stay with the basic kit and find your style before getting too complicated.

Now when we say cheap drum kit, it does not necessarily mean lowest quality. It is mostly referring to entry level. Professional kits can get into thousands of dollars. No need to go there just yet. Spending $200-$500 is very realistic for a good sounding instrument. Keep in mind quality cymbals are expensive. Shopping around for used cymbals, in good shape, is well worth the time and effort. Sticks are relatively inexpensive.

Buying Cymbals

Saving money on this accessory can be good or bad. Be sure to check for cracks or nicks if buying used. Otherwise try to stay with the brand names such as Zildjian, Paiste, and Sabian. Consider Cymbal packs of 2-4 to save money.

Considering Used vs. New?

Inspect a used set carefully if not certified by a retailer. There are many connections that break and wood shells can warp. Usually the price is lower and a very good deal can be made on used. Buying a cheap drum kit new is a good option to avoid hassles and get right to playing.

What Brands are Best you might ask?

It can depend on your personal taste; however just starting out any of the top names will be a great choice such as Ludwig, Pearl, DW, and Yamaha. Ludwig and Yamaha are perfect choices for the beginning drummer. They are robust in sound, durable, and have a strong resale value if needing to sell down the road.

A Bit about Electronic Drum Kits

These tend to cost more but may be the right solution for noise control. A fantastic benefit to electronic drum kits is the variety of sound settings you have for each instrument. You can preset to your taste and never tire of the different ways to play. They require an amp for sound or headphones to hear you play. They require a little less space than their acoustic family. Simmons, Roland are two excellent brands. The feel is similar and you can avoid the neighbors complaining at least until you are great.

A Tip on Drum Lessons

If you opt for the video option, be sure to dedicate a Monitor and remote to control the passages, as you will want to mimic much of the instruction. You can control the pace as well. A personal lesson or several is best, however it can cost more.

For the beginning an even professional drummer, the metronome is an important accessory. This device provides timing to the beat at various levels. As a drummer, keeping the beat is your core purpose.

Rock On!…

The bottom line is do it. Explore your talent for drumming and mostly enjoy the learning process. It is a highly disciplined instrument that requires endurance. It is always admired in the band as people tend to appreciate really good drummers. So start with cheap drum kits until you can master the licks to advance on to the bigger sets.

As a rule of thumb, it’s been said buy quality and it will last. That is true when you are talking tools or clothing. However, starting out as a beginner drummer you may not have the budget to invest in your dream kit. So, no harm in looking into cheap drum kits to explore your passion for playing.

I was a rudiment drummer in high school and played constantly. I loved it. In my later years I developed an obsession to learn and play a drum kit. I was not in a position to spend $1500 or even $1000 on a drum kit.

I found plenty of cheap drum kits on the market to satisfy my entry level needs. I would recommend amazon or american musical supply as good stores to buy from with great selection. I bought my very first for $80 from a friend minus the cymbals. A cymbal pack for $200 made it complete with a $60 kicker.

I would recommend starting with a kit that is not perhaps the lowest of the off brands. A high end off brand or low end brand name is a good target to shoot for. Brand name kit makers are Ludwig, Pearl, DW, Gretch. Keep in mind the cymbals on a cheap drum kit, if sold new, may not be included. Buying a cymbal pack is the best value when purchasing. On a used kit be sure to inspect for cracks.

Getting your mind right on what your going to invest in time, energy and money is very good at the start. Considering whether you are just playing solo, playing in a local band or pursuing a professional career, playing the drums is the coolest instrument.

Buying an electronic drum kit can be a sensible option. Especially first starting out. The reason being you can control the volume if you live in an apartment or tight neighborhood. The other reason is variations of sounds. Each drum and cymbal can have a unique sound to further your experience and enjoyment. A separate amplifier needs to be purchased.

I highly recommend taking drum lessons. Either from a one on one instructor or choose one of the good DVD program online. You will not regret it. You save money on buying a cheap drum kit, now invest in your skills. You will enjoy playing more and it may ensure you stick with drumming. Your family will be glad for it and if you’re really good the thousands of fans will appreciate it too.

Check out the many option to buy cheap drum kits today.

I was very happy with my Percussion Plus 5-pc. set from amazon. The shipping was less than $10. Great sound, great deal.
